The Marina Beach is a beach situated along a 12 km shoreline in the city of Chennai, India along the Bay of Bengal,The Marina Beach is the second largest beach in a city and the world's longest city beach.

Despite these problems however, a visit to the Marina is a sine qua non for any tourist coming to Chennai.

Mahatma Gandhiji (Father of Indian Nation)

Gandhiji's statue is in the center of the Marina Beach

The beach begins near Fort St. George in the north to Besant Nagar in the south, a distance of about 12km.[1] A famous characteristic of the beach is the set of stone statues that adorn the roadside area of the beach. Most statues are of Indian/local legends like Mahatma Gandhi, Kannagi, Thiruvalluvar, while others have symbolic significance like the Statue of Labour. Also memorials for M. G. Ramachandran and C. Vivenkanandar House(Ice House)

Vivekananda House (Ice House)

Vivekananda House, also known as Ice House, is a shrine and target of pilgrimage for the admirers of Swami Vivekananda. This is remembered as the place where Swami Vivekananda stayed for nine days when he visited Chennai (then Madras) in 1897. Vivekanandar Illam now houses a permanent exhibition on Swami Vivekananda set up by the Chennai branch of the Ramakrishna Math.

Built way back in 1877 , the two-story house is a masterpiece of Victorian architecture with its characteristic designs of sunburst and gabled roof. The bedroom where Vivekananda stayed, lived and slept is now a safe haven for meditation. One can respectfully see the table at which he dined, placed downstairs near the fireplace. Devotees can stroll through the kitchen where he cooked his simple food, the parlor where he spoke and the garden where he frequently played with the children. These physical reminders of the life of Swami Vivekananda revive the great principles for which he stood all along his life.

Phone: 65174585,9282113785
Locality: Mylapore
Landmark:Behind Chennai City Center
Cuisine Type: North Indian(Punjabi food)

Aangan, a serene restaurant located just behind the City Center mall, at Hamilton Bridge, Mylapore.

Go on weekdays during lunch hours and one can never see an empty table.
Combo-meals comprising parathas or jeera rice along with chhole and raita for Rs. 55 and North Indian thali consisting paneer subzi, dry vegetable, one small roti and naan, daal and curd rice for Rs. 85.”

As the waiter brought the
paneer tikka (Rs 75), daal makhani (Rs 70), corn capsicum vegetable (Rs 80) and biryani (Rs 75), makki ki roti (Rs 20), dry aalu-gobi (Rs 70) to the table, the aroma satiated half my hunger.

One bite of the soft paneer tikka marinated with curd and spices and it just melted in my mouth. It is unique for its softness and freshness. To beat the heat, I ended my wholesome meal with chilled and rich
pot kulfi with dry fruits.

Considering it’s Punjabi food, their parathas, lachas, naan and kulcha ranging between Rs. 20 and Rs. 30, paneer butter masala (Rs 80), paneer capsicum bhurji and chana masala (Rs. 75), it is not one bit oily and gives you the flavour of home-made food.

I would rate this place as
8.5/10

Tamilnadu bandh on 23 april 2009

News About the Bandh

EXPRESSING SOLIDARITY: Shops remain closed at the Kothavalchavadi market in Chennai on Friday.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has called for a 12-hour strike in Chennai(Tamilnadu Capital) on Thursday.

Late on Tuesday night, Karunanidhi issued a final appeal and asked all Tamils, irrespective of their political affiliations, to join the strike. He justified his decision saying that besides asking the Centre to demand a permanent ceasefire, the strike was also for sympathising with the plight of Tamils in Srilanka.

No violent incident has been reported . I had gone to play this morning in Nungumbakkam ground and everything seemed normal . Only few shops where open ...
Today was declared a holiday for most of the software industries ,instead Saturday will be considered working ....

There was lukewarm response to the State-wide bandh call given by the Tamilnadu Vanigar Sangangkalin Peravai in support of Sri Lankan Tamils. The traders’ demand included immediate ceasefire in Sri Lanka and distribution of relief materials to Tamils in the island nation through a United Nations agency.
Shopowners owing allegiance to the Peravai put up the shutters while those affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry kept off the bandh.

In Chennai nearly 75 per cent of the shops were closed and in districts the closure was partial with more than 50 per cent of the shop keepers not participating.
Wholesale and retail vegetable merchants at the Koyembedu market here participated in the stir and refused to offload vegetables from lorries that arrived from different parts of the country.

This affected availability of vegetables in the city.

Mughals Zaika

Mughals Zaika Restaurant

Address: 8 Rajarathinam St ,Kilpauk, Chennai -600010
Phone: 044-421 70901
Locality: Kilpauk
Landmark:Behind Ega Theatre
Cuisine Type: North Indian

This restaurant is situated just behind EGA theater . It is owned by a Muslim(Bhai) and servers good Mugal food .Zaika offers traditional Mutton and Chicken varieties at affordable prices.

The best menu is the tandoori chicken , The Biryani is not spicy and lacks the aroma of Hyderabad Biryani (Rs70) . the side dishes are awesome to have .. It is better to buy biryani outside and parcel the tandoori to have nice lunch . The serving is very pleasant and food is prepared just after our orders .Some of my friends had said that this is how the a mugal biryani tastes but it is like jeera rice

The place is nice to visit for a night .... The tandoori's are really tasty and crispy to have.Their menu is pretty comprehensive with a generous splash of varieties in all sections. There are Chicken Tikka, Sheek kebab, Reshmi kebab, and a hoard of other kebabs to choose from, and most importantly none of them disappointing. Then the parade of Indian breads! I have mercilessly savored most of the naan, roti, kulcha and stuffed paratha varieties.

For vegetarians, Zaika is not the right destination. There are only a few curries for them of which two were not available that night. While the rather dry paneer robbed the tikkas of their flavour (Rs.55), the mushroom mix vegetable tava (Rs.45) was also not too exciting.

This is the best place in Chennai for Afgani,Reshmi and Iranian Kebabs ! I bet you these guys serve better kebabs than the great kabab factory. Its great value for money.Their Kebabs are juicy and yummy. The only reservation one may have is its a non a/c restaurant.

While coming down the Chetput bridge towards the Poonamallee High Road, take the road just adjacent to the Ega Theatre. Then take the first right, and bingo! Right there is the Mughal’s Zaika Restaurant. The menu is pretty light on the wallet, but strong in taste

I would rate this place as 6.5/10

Chennai History

Chennai, in the past known as Madras, is the capital of the great state Tamil Nadu and one of the four metropolitan cities in India. It is situated in the southern part of India.

This city is only 350 years old and it grew up under the influence of an English settlement of Fort Saint George, with the time it absorbed the towns and villages in the surrounding.
The British influence didn’t hinder Chennai in keeping its traditional Tamil Hindu culture.

The city has a wide extension of about 180 square kilometres and is one of the most important trading centres of India.
Chennai is well connected by road, rail and air to other important cities and is also a sea port.

In 1639 Chennai was a little fisherman’s village, nowadays it is one of the biggest and more beautiful cities of India.
